Obituary for Catherine "Kitty" Amelio
Catherine “Kitty” Amelio, 88, passed away on April 17, 2023. She was born on February 12, 1935 in Port Chester, NY, to the late Anthony and Josephine (Di Gugliemo) Coppola. Kitty was raised in Port Chester, graduating from Port Chester High School in 1952. She was predeceased by her husband Daniel “Dan” Amelio in 2017.
Kitty was employed as an administrative assistant, first at Louis M. Klein Middle School and then at Harrison High School for many years, until her retirement in 2009. She loved nothing more than travelling and spending time with family and friends. Kitty was a devoted parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church, and an active member of both the Harrison Senior Center and the Columbiettes.
She is survived by her beloved children, Donata Viglione of Harrison, Anthony Lagonigro (Nicola) of New York City, Ralph Amelio (Mary Ann) of Old Greenwich, CT and her dear grandchildren, Michelle Sawyer, Shannon Jannone (Mikee), Ryan and Kyle Amelio, and her great-grandchildren, Emma, Leland, and Grayson Jannone. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Robert Bambace of Lauderhill, Florida, as well as her many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased in 2022 by her sister and best friend, Valerie Bambace.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Kitty’s home care providers for their loving dedication and care and to her amazing friends and family for their incredible support throughout her illness. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, 11:00AM at St. Gregory the Great Church, 215 Halstead Avenue, Harrison, NY.
