Obituary for Maria Teresa Loaiza

Maria Teresa Loaiza, 77, died on Sunday, January 23, in her Carmel
NY home. Born October 27th, 1944, in La Paz, Bolivia, she was the
daughter of Arturo Loaiza and Consuelo Suarez de Loaiza.
Teresa grew up in Bolivia, where she worked as a tri-lingual secretary
for the Bolivian Geological Service. She married Luis Barrientos and had
one daughter, Alexandra. She then moved to New York City in 1981, working in
Manhattan, and then Westchester, in the paper trade business until retirement.
Teresa was an avid learner, and managed to be a college student of various
subjects throughout her life while working as a single parent. On January 14, 2000,
she married Enrique Araya, her husband of 22 years, whom she met in 1986 while
both were attending La Guardia College night school.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Alexandra Barrientos,
her granddaughters Amber and Vanessa Codacovi, her son-In-law Robert Codacovi, her sisters Rosario
and Consuelo Loaiza, and her beloved King Charles Spaniel Lola.
