Obituary for Edward Knickerbocker
Edward was born on 10/11/1921 to Doris Wilder Knickerbocker & Charles Edward Knickerbocker in Cortland New York. He had 4 younger siblings, Thera Louise McKenna, Doris Elaine (Dolly) Beaver, Elinore Joyce Dewitt and Robert David Knickerbocker all which have predeceased him.
At a young age the family relocated to Larchmont, a beautiful small town in Westchester County NY, which he would fondly reminisce about his happy childhood memories.
In 1940 he enlisted in the US Navy and worked his way up to Chief Petty Officer during WWII. Even after being on the US Hornett aircraft carrier, which was shot down and sunk in the Pacific Ocean, he still spoke of the Navy years with great pride, and referred to them as some of his best years.
When home on leave, he met the love of his life Helen Marie DeBruyn (deceased), of Mount Vernon NY. Two weeks after she met him she traveled by train to Berkeley California, where he was stationed and they were married by the justice of the peace. A happy union lasting over 50+ years, resulting in 3 children. Frederick Charles Knickerbocker (deceased), Bruce Edward Knickerbocker (deceased) and Chris Edward Knickerbocker (wife) Michelle Bonvini Knickerbocker.
Edward, had 7 Grandchildren - Scot Knickerbocker (wife) Jinny Jang Knickerbocker, Bruce Knickerbocker Jr. (wife) Kelly Burnett Knickerbocker, Katrina Knickerbocker DeRosa (husband) Michael DeRosa, Kenneth Knickerbocker (wife) Iefa Knickerbocker, Kevin Knickerbocker (wife) Julie Panzer Knickerbocker, Kendra Knickerbocker Krochmal (husband) Michael Krochmal, Amanda Knickerbocker Machin (husband) Chris (CJ) Machin. He also had 7 Great-grandchildren – Carter, Bree, Cora, Haziq, Maria, Evelyn, Sophie.
He worked at Nichols Hardware in Carmel NY for over 30+ years. Referred to there by the name (Ted), he thoroughly enjoyed his work helping people of the community. He also was known as the fix it guy, who had a side business repairing broken screens and small applicances.
Him and his wife lived a quiet life, but would enjoy stepping out on weekend nights to dance the night away at the old Happy Valley Restaurant. In his later years he enjoyed a good round of golf!
Edward had a life well lived! He was a kind man with good old fashioned manners and values. To all who knew him, he will be missed!
