Obituary for Michael William Proper

Michael W. Proper of Harrison passed away unexpectant on Friday, November 13, 2020..at his home. He was born in New York City to Leendert Proper and Cornelia Posman who predeceased him along with his step mother Edwina Proper. Michael was the loving father to Michael (Shaunae)Proper, Rebecca Proper; Melissa Burnside (Mark) and Elizabeth Howe (Michael).as well as his long time life companion Paddi. He is survived by his loving sister Linda Jordan ( Chett)of New Hampshire and his stepbrothers and sisters, Raymond ( MaryAngela); William (Theresa), Michael Malone ( Adrianna), James, Deborah and Donna DeLucia ( Dominic) all of Long Island. Michael attended Cherry Lawn School in Connecticut and graduated from Lincoln High School in Yonkers. Upon graduation he joined the United States JOB Core where he received training and certification as a Heavy Equipment Operator building roads and tunnels. He moved to Florida and received certification in Water treatment and worked several years at the Sarasota Waiter Public Treatment Plant. He eventually found his way back to New York first working in heavy equipment land excavation and land development. Michael loved learning and attended Westchester Community College and BOCES and received certification of course completion and achievements in areas of electrical, plumbing, small machines and auto mechanics. Recently Michael was working in the area of building maintenance/custodial. He was currently employed part time at Park School and Home Depot in Port Chester, The Rye Recreation Center in Rye and was Superintendent at the Marion Court Condominiums Harrison. Michael was a former member of the Port Chester Knights of Columbus and Westchester Red Cross and a current member of the Rye YMCA
Michael was a good, kind, caring person and a gentle soul. Always reaching out to others to see how he could help or just lend a helping hand, always generous with his time and his talents. He enjoyed Fly Fishing, Surf Casting, [playing Chess, riding his bike and Swimming, however what he enjoyed most was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Michael leaves behind 14 adoring grandchildren, 1 great grand child and 10 nieces and nephews. He will be remembered forever in our hearts.
