Obituary for Angeline J. "Angie" Pappas

Angeline J. Pappas

May 26, 1929 - October 17, 2020

Angie was born in Detroit, Michigan to Demitri and Georgia Pappas. She graduated from Wayne State University in Michigan, obtained the distinction of two master’s degrees, and completed the required coursework toward her PhD in Psychology from the University of Michigan. She was guidance counselor at Horace Greeley High School from 1961-1993 at which point she became President of the St. Basil’s Academy in Garrison, NY. Upon retirement, she served her beloved Church of Our Saviour, in Rye, NY as Office Assistant until 2013.

Beloved friend to children and adults alike, Angie is remembered for her gentle yet effective manner, her sense of humor, love of basset hounds, stuffed animals, photography, history, black coffee, and cars. Her Camaro and Porsche, fixtures outside her high school office window, were not her only vehicles to bear the “MGoBlue” license plates. She was as fiercely loyal to her alma matter as to her relationships. Her generous support included childrens’ charities as well as animal rescue organizations.

Angie was devoted to her niece, Mardene Galanos Morykwas (deceased), and is survived by her nephew-in-law Michael Morykwas of Winston Salem, North Carolina. She leaves behind her church family in Westchester whose lives she impacted in ways large and small.

Mother to us all, Angie lived a life of service. Her warm embrace will be eternally felt by those that had the privilege to know her. She was 91 years old.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make memorial contributions in Angie's honor to The Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour, Rye, New York.
