Ralph J. Sassone, Jr. died peacefully at his home in Harrison, New York, surrounded by his family, on August 28th, 2020, at age 94. He was one of five children of Ralph J. and Minnie Sassone, adored parents who he missed deeply until his last day on earth. On October 29, 1949, he wed the beautiful and devoted Louise Legnini, to whom he remained married for 70 years and who predeceased him in 2019. An exceptionally intelligent, hard-working, and vital businessman, he was President and CEO of Sassone Wholesale Grocery Company Inc.for nearly eight decades, deeply respected by clients, revered by employees, and very well-liked by everyone who did business with him. He met the challenges of aging head on and with extraordinary gusto, never capitulating to illness or disability until his very last hours. A forceful patriarch and a popular friend to many, he is survived by his five loving children, Linda Carnevalla (Joseph) and Denise Caliguiri (Anthony) of Harrison; Susan Russo (Emil) of Rye, NY; Ralph Sassone III (Peter) of New York, NY; and Steven Sassone (Joanne) of Boca Raton, Florida, as well as six wonderful grandchildren (Lauren, Anthony, Lindsay, Gregory, Mark, and Alexandra) and five great-grandchildren (Hunter, Ashton, Ella, Alessandra, and Charlie). Although his family is profoundly saddened by this loss, he will remain forever in their memories and deep in their hearts. Funeral services were private.
