Obituary for Martha Gutierrez
Martha Gutierrez went home to our Almighty God on June 30, 2020 at age 79.
She was born to Jose and Paulina Fernandez on January 20, 1941 in Coamo, Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx.
Martha attended Mercy College in New York where she received both her Master’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Education. She taught 4th Grade ESL at P.S.77 for over 25 years and was loved by all her students. During the summer break her students would often ring her doorbell at her residence because they missed her so much.
She was a hard working woman, and a dedicated mother. Her family mattered the most to her, she was our “matriarch”.
She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who had a “Heart of Gold” and whose greatest passion was helping others. She touched the lives of many with her unconditional love, generosity and kindness.
Martha’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her heart and joy.
There was no denying that her grandchildren and great grandchildren were “her babies” as she called them, were the ones she loved the most.
She is survived by her four children, Robert, Lisa, Joseph, and Michael. Her five grandchildren, Robert, Samantha, Kristina, Emily, Sophia. Her two great-grandchildren, Jeiden and Henry. Her sister, Carmen, and her niece, Elina.
She will be forever missed!
