Obituary for Charlotte A. Vaughn (Charlotte Neff)

Charlotte A. Vaughn, 85, of Harrison, passed away shortly after a stroke on Friday, June 26, 2020 at Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, Ct. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Clarence “Buddy” Vaughn. Charlotte was born on July 17,1934 to the late Max and Anna (Honikel) Neff and grew up in the Bronx, NY. She attended St. Raymond’s Grammar School, Cathedral High School in Manhattan and St. Vincent’s School of Nursing. In her 43-year career as a psychiatric nurse in Jacobi Hospital in Bronx, NY, she fulfilled her passion for helping and caring for others.

Charlotte and Buddy were married, June 8,1957 at St. Raymond’s Church in the Bronx and lived in Harrison, New York for 57 years where they raised their four children. She was a dedicated and supportive Mom and a devoted parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Harrison. In retirement she and Buddy attended their grandchildren's sporting, musical and theatrical events, enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Germany and Alaska and visiting their Pocono, Pa. vacation home of 40 years. She was as a member of the Rye Assn for the Handicapped (RAH) and the Lewisboro Seniors. She was honored to receive the Lucy C. Pedersen Service Award from the RAH in 2009 and to have been inducted into the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in 2011 after being nominated by the Lewisboro Seniors.

Charlotte was a beloved wife, mother, “Oma” and friend to many. She valued her family above all, and was dedicated to acting in service to others. She was selfless and generous in so many ways, always putting the needs of others before herself, without complaint. Her generosity allowed her children and grandchildren to prosper and grow, and her love provided comfort and joy. Her presence in the lives of those she loved was a constant and her loss and absence will be felt immensely. She will be so greatly missed but the impact of her life will live on in those she loves, as we all will try to be just a little bit more like Charlotte, selfless, generous, and kind, with a little bit of her humor thrown in to allow us to smile even when we’re sad.

Charlotte, is survived by her four children, Linda Grogan (Michael), of Tuckahoe; Carolyn Frugis (Anthony) of Ossining; Cecilia Emblidge (John) of Waterford, Ct, and Christopher Vaughn (Kelly) of East Granby, Ct. Charlotte was a loving "Oma" to eight grandchildren, Robert Grogan (Elizabeth); Scott Frugis (Melissa); Deanna Bohnhoff (John); Matthew, Stephen and Lindsay Emblidge and Maximilian and Brenn Vaughn and also two great grandchildren, Karen Grogan and Brooke Bohnhoff. She is survived by her brother Eric Neff (Louise) of Binghamton, NY, her sister Dorothy DiPierro (Arthur) of Bronx, NY, many nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.
