I remember the first day Rita walked into the office at Putam Independent Livng. It was January 2006. Someone from a neighboring agency told her we had an opening at our front desk. Her bright smile and warm greeting made an instant impression on us. She was one of the most up front and relaxed people we had ever interviewed. We immediately loved her and knew she would be right for PILS Back then we had no idea what kind of impact she would have on our lives.
Rita was a unique person in so many ways. She treated every one of us as if we were special. We all thought we were. Whenever there was a need in the office she would be right there. I'd call her on the phone to ask for help, she'd mumble something into the phone and five seconds later I'd hear her coming down the hall and in a flash she'd be at my desk !!! I always wondered how she moved so fast. If Rita couldn't fix it (and there was very little Rita couldn't fix) she would find someone who could - and it would get done. She was awesome.
Not only was Rita an awesome assistant and incredible office manager, she was the hub of the wheel at PILS. She was a gatherer. Rita made sure every one was included in the 12:30 lunch hour around the table in the conference room. She would think of things we needed before WE knew we needed them. She loved us.
Over the years Rita became a close friend of mine. We laughed together, cried together, prayed together - many times. We shared the same beliefs and talked about how neither one of us had a fear of death because of the hope in our hearts through Jesus Christ. She was my friend, my sister, my confidante. I will really miss her in the days and years ahead, but I look forward to the day that I will see her smiling face again. I'm confident that she is worshiping around the throne of God right now and having the best time she's EVER had !!! No one can replace our Rita.
