Obituary for Elisabeth M Jaklitsch

Elisabeth Margareth Schuller Jaklitsch

Passed away on October 2nd, 2011 at the age of 83. Born March 11, 1928 to Marcel and Else in the town of Prorzheim, Germany, near the Black Forest. Shortly after the birth of her sister, Anne, her mother died. Elisabeth was raised by her maternal grandparents, the Klings, a family of jewelers. Elisabeth’s father Marcel remarried and he and Maria had more children, Albert, Inge, Berdt. Elisabeth immigrated to the United States during WWII, to escape the terror happening in Germany at that time. Once here, she lived with her Uncle and Tante Kling, and cousin Erich, in Queens, NY. Elisabeth went to business school and had a career as a translator and business assistant in lower Manhattan. Elisabeth met and fell in love with Frank Jaklitsch and they had a storybook romance and married on September 18, 1953 (?) Together, Elisabeth and Frank raised three daughters, Sigrid Elizabeth, Rita Susan, and Linda Karin. In 1967, the family relocated from Ridgewood to Whitestone where they lived in a lovely home filled with family, pets, food, and great German music. The family grew and in 1977, Sigrid married George Becker of the US Coast Guard and moved to Alaska a year later. In 1978, Frank passed away suddenly, Elisabeth having a broken heart that couldn’t possibly ever heal. Elisabeth remained devoted to Frank, her “Franzel” to her dying day. Elisabeth reentered the workforce and spent many years serving in the medical laboratory of Astoria General Hospital. Elisabeth was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren including Sigrid and George’s children: US Army Sgt. Jonathan Becker; Jeanette Becker Carman and her husband Cary, and their children Kayleigh and Baby Michael; Rita’s children Andrea and her son Cayden; Tiffany and Kenny; Linda and Vinny’s children Frank, Christopher and Nicholas. Elisabeth was blessed to have dear and loving friendships with family and friends, especially her sister-in-law Zina Vissokovsky, cousins Hiris, Sturm and Parthe, all family in Germany, and dearest friends Marianne Sigmund and Friede Cerkovnik, as well as many others. Elisabeth enjoyed time living in her home with her children Linda and Vinny in Carmel, NY for many years, with winter getaways to the warmth of Rita’s South Carolina home and Lisa’s Florida home. Her last year was spent in the beauty of Bluffton, SC, living daily in the close presence of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Besides family, Some of Elisabeth’s great joys were gardens and flowers, fresh coffee and dessert, beating everyone in Scrabble, and a really good polka!
